The staff at EOM not only pride themselves on assisting the residence of Mid-Wales with energy solutions but also raising much needed funds for local Charities.

Just before Christmas, EOM held its first Cake-off competition raising money for our local Welsh Air Ambulance. The Participants had to bake a cake of their choice in preparation for judgement day, the cakes varied from a traditional Victoria sponge to a triple chocolate orange Halloween themed cake. There was a great sense of team building and pride throughout the challenge, there was also a little competitive spirit amongst the bakers. The competition was judged by senior lecturer in Catering and Hospitality, Mandy Carter from NCPT College who had the difficult job of selecting the top three cakes based on creativity, appearance and taste.  The winning cake being The Halloween themed triple chocolate orange sponge cake, made by Kezia Lloyd-Price. The cakes were sold after the judging had commenced and EOM raised £200 in donations for the Welsh Air Ambulance, with a 50% donation match of £100 from Hager, a supplier of electrical distribution solutions for residential and commercial projects.

On Tuesday 8th of March, Sammy Davies (Event Organiser) and Kezia Lloyd-Price (event winner) took a trip to the Welsh Air Ambulance base at Welshpool Airport to present the air ambulance crew with a cheque for £300.

We met with community fund raiser Dougie, and the helicopter crew; Doctor James and Pilot Valentino. They were all so welcoming and were grateful to receive the donation. They shared their experiences with us and explained how Covid19 has had a detrimental effect on their fund raising, losing out on over £3million in funds over the last 2 years.

They went on to explain how each call out of the air ambulance costs approximately £1500 – £2000 per hour and that any donation no matter how small helps to keep them in the air. Their service covers the whole of Wales, providing treatment to patients who have been involved in road traffic collisions, suffered serious trauma or have suffered a medical emergency such as a stroke or cardiac arrest. They can be anywhere in Wales within 20 minutes, flying A&E directly to the patient; giving patients advanced care before they even reach the hospital.

EOM General Manager said, “The cake off was a huge success and a lot of fun, we were very well supported by our colleagues and local suppliers who all made generous donations and we sold out of the cakes” Mike continued, “It was also a great opportunity to support the Air Ambulance which is such an essential service in Mid Wales and beyond, and I’m looking forward to more fund raising events for them”

Throughout the rest of the year EOM will be carrying out many events to raise funds for the Welsh Air Ambulance. All donations no matter how large or small would be greatly appreciated.
